The copper-made batik stamp was invented in the early 19th century. This invention revolutionized the batik making process in Java; which was then only made by hand. To the batik artisans, copper batik stamps are one of the most precious family treasures to be inherited heritably, mostly due to the unique pattern designed. Preserving batik stamp has became a valuable trade; since the process of batik making by hand and stamp have been superseded by printing nowadays.
