Meet The Designer: Alvin Tjitrowirjo

A Product designer with industry experience since 2006 and the founder of alvinT since 2012. He graduated with a Master’s degree in product design from IED European Design Labs in Madrid, Spain.

Alvin has received prestigious awards in product design, including being named Indonesia’s Influential Person in the Creative Industry in Product Design by IDEAFEST. In 2005, his Bell Chair was selected for exhibition at Salone Satellite in Milan, Italy, among other achievements.

Warmth of Rattan, Strength of Wood

The outer shell of MEKAR Table is crafted from natural rattan poles, polished and left in their natural color to celebrate texture and warmth. This is paired with a walnut veneer tabletop finished in polyurethane brown, creating a refined contrast between earthy tones and smooth surfaces.

Inside, a plywood shell and frame provide structural stability, ensuring that the table is not only visually striking but also enduring in daily use. Together, these materials merge tradition with modernity, celebrating Indonesia’s rich craft heritage while embracing contemporary design sensibilities.
